May 26, 2014

Islamabad, 03/05/2014 (BNA) The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened the first Ombudsman Conference for its member states. Bahrain Ombudsman Secretary-General Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda attended the two-day event which opened on April28 in Pakistan. The conference followed a proposal submitted by Pakistani Foreign Minister to the (OIC) Foreign Minister’s meeting, which was held in November 2012 in Djibouti. The member states agreed to establish an Islamic Ombudsman Association. The Kingdom of Bahrain has thus become one of the first founding members of the newly-established pan-Islamic network. Addressing the conference, Mr. Al-Maawda affirmed Bahrain’s cooperation with the (OIC) member states whether bilaterally or via an institution including all ombudsman bodies. He expressed the hope that the newly-established network would ensure the member states the necessary specialised expertise, bolster joint cooperation and project a developed model to the world, inspired by the lofty tolerant Islamic principles which promote justice.
