2- Safety
Custody staff is competent to assess and manage risks presented by prisoners or
detainees
Indicators
Staffs are aware of their responsibility for the assessment and management of risks
arising from dealing with the prisoners or detainees, or the prisoners or detainees
dealing with one another.
Staff received initial and renewed training on risk management procedures.
Staffs have knowledge and understanding of self-harm and how to confront it.
Staffs have knowledge and understanding of prisoners’ or detainees’ risk to others and
how to manage it.
Risk management plans are proportionate and are developed and reviewed
dynamically
CCTV cameras are set up in all buildings, suites and corridors

themselves and / or others.
What happens when a prisoner or detainee is unwilling or unable to cooperate with risk
assessment?
How thigh numbers of prisoners or detainees coming into custody at peak times are
managed.
Whether staff alerts them if they are bringing a violent prisoner or detainee into the
custody suite or if they are transferring a violent prisoner or detainee and what
arrangements are made.
Whether control procedures are applied on those assessed as a possible source of
danger.
Whether staffs understand the importance of monitoring those assessed as at risk.
Whether staffs carries cells keys at all times to prevent hazards.
