Al-Maawda briefs French Ambassador for Human Rights on Ombudsman

Manama, November 21 (BNA) –The Ombudsman at the Ministry of Interior, Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda received Thursday, the French Ambassador at Large for Human Rights Patrizianna Sparacino-Thiellay.

Al-Maawda brief her on the Ombudsman and its role in reinforcing accountability in regard of receiving complaints against Ministry of Interior personnel, in addition to monitoring the reform and detention centers.

Al-Maawda also highlighted the most important events and activities, particularly since the launch of the Ombudsmanin July, including the issuance of the criteria and standards for visiting prisons and centres of detention.

Al-Maawda said that the meeting reflected the keenness of the Ombudsman on cooperation and communication with international officials and diplomats concerned with the experience of the Ombudsman and its efforts in reinforcing human rights and humane treatment.

He said that the Ombudsman was the first of its kind in the region and was keen on benefiting from international experiences and expertise in the field.

The meeting was attended by Jean-Paul Ghoneim, Senior Advisor at the French Embassy in the Kingdom, Ahmed Khalil Nass and Rahma Isa Shweiter from the Ombudsman.
