Office of the Ombudsman holds specialised training workshop

The Office of the Ombudsman organised a spcialised training workshop on January 16 and 17, in cooperation with the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR).

Experts from the Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas (NI-CO) lectured during the two-day workshop.

Addressing the workshop, Ombudswoman, Ghada Hameed Habib, stressed the Office of the Ombudsman’s constant keenness to launch training and development programmes and events to provide its staff with the required skills, and inform them about the best international practices in the fields of their work.

She asserted that since its establishment, the Office of the Ombudsman has adopted a strategy based on positive and constructive cooperation with the relevant international agencies, including NI-CO with which it has organised many events over the past years.

She added that this workshop is of remarkable importance, especially in light of the continuous development of mechanisms for dealing with different categories of inmates through laws and executive procedures, such as the alternative sentencing law, the Restorative Justice Law for Children and their Protection from Maltreatment, the open prisons project, and others.

Ombudswoman Habib extended thanks to the lecturers for their distinguished knowledge level. She also lauded the existing cooperation with the NIHR in issues of mutual interest.
