Ombudsman, Nawaf Mohammed Al-Ma’awda, received here today, in the presence of the Deputy Ombudsman, Ghada Hameed Habib, a delegation from the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, led by Tatiana Moskalkova, along with the Russian Consul in Manama.
The delegation is on a visit to the kingdom at the invitation of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR).
The Ombudsman briefed the delegation about the terms of reference of the Office of the Ombudsman, and its role in consolidating respect for the principles of human rights, in addition to its cooperation with other national institutions and entities, including the NIHR.
He also reviewed the main information and statistics included in the Office of the Ombudsman’s reports regarding its efforts to serve the public.
Al-Ma’awda also highlighted the role played by Bahrain’s Prisoners and Detainees’ Rights Commission to enhance the rights of inmates and detainees through its visits and recommendations to improve the level of services delivered to them, in accordance with international standards.
The meeting was attended by the NIHR’s Deputy Chairman, Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Shaer, and Council of Commissioners’ member, Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi, in addition to the Office of the Ombudsman’s directors.
