Ombudsman Nawaf Al Maawda today received a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Federation, led by Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Wolfgang-Amadeus Brulhart, in the presence of Doha-based Swiss Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Etienne Thevoz.
The Ombudsman welcomed the Swiss delegation currently visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain as part of international cooperation activities. He explained to them the efforts and duties of the Ombudsman Office in boosting the respecting of human rights principles, receiving complaints and closely monitoring reform and detention centres.
He reviewed with the delegation the annual reports statistics and data issued by the Ombudsman Office. He also cited the aspects of cooperation and coordination with national human rights institutions and bodies which share with the Ombudsman Office in some of the jurisdiction, including the Commission for Prisoner and Detainee Rights that had sent its delegation to Berne, Switzerland last December at the invitation of the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
The Ombudsman emphasized to the Swiss the delegation the Office's keenness on boosting its cooperation activities and communication with official, diplomatic and human rights' international organizations and institutions and boosting the practical exchanging of mutual expertise and cooperation with these organizations and institutions in the areas of its jurisdiction.
Deputy Ombudsman Osama Ahmed Al Asfoor and the Director of Development and International Cooperation Ghada Hameed Habib were also present during the meeting.
