Hamad Salman Taqi, the Director of Monitoring Prisons and Detention Facilities, participated in an international webinar hosted by the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), under the theme: "The Ombudsman: Upholding International Standards".
The seminar addressed the importance of compliance with international principles, particularly in light of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 79/177, which calls for a high-level discussion on the Venice Principles, a set of international guidelines aimed at ensuring the independence and effectiveness of ombudsman institutions both nationally and globally.
The webinar aimed to reinforce the significance of these international standards in enhancing the credibility and impact of ombudsman bodies, especially in promoting accountability, inclusion, and good governance. It also provided a platform for the exchange of experiences and best practices in establishing and maintaining effective oversight institutions.
