Ombudsman receives Qatari delegation

Ombudsman Nawaf Mohammed Al-Ma'awda said the Office of the Ombudsman welcomes cooperation with brotherly GCC institutions, being the first of its kind in the region.

This came as he received here today a delegation from the Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), led by its Secretary-General Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah.

The Qatari delegation, which is participating in the training session, organsied by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) on the regional and international mechanisms to consolidate and protect human rights, was accompanied by Deputy NIHR Chairman Abdulla Al-Durazi, and the Maria Khoury, Commissioner and Chairperson pf the NIHR's Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee.

Al-Ma'awda briefed the delegation about the responsibilities of the Office of the Ombudsman, noting that its work mechanism is in accordance with the international standards of the offices of the ombudsmen.

He also reviewed the second annual report of the Office of the Ombudsman, as well as areas of joint cooperation.

He also informed them about the duties of the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission, and its role in enhancing the protection of human rights of poisoners and detainees.
