Ombudswoman receives Lord of Wimbledon

Ghada Hameed Habib, Ombudswoman, received Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, former Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).

The Ombudswoman reviewed the Ombudsman Office's key achievements, including its role in handling complaints and conducting visits to correctional, rehabilitation, and pre-trial detention centres.

She highlighted the recent establishment of a new division within the office’s structure to handle complaints involving children, in line with Bahrain’s commitment to the Universal Periodic Review recommendations before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

The Ombudsman emphasised the office's commitment to international cooperation to strengthen capacity-building and gain new expertise.

She highlighted the ongoing collaboration with the United Kingdom, noting a specialised training workshop held in December in partnership with the British Embassy in Manama, which focused on procedures for investigating complaints involving children.
