Jaw Prison Inmates aged 15 to 18 separated

Manama, Nov. 25. (BNA) – The Reform and Rehabilitation Directorate at the Ministry of Interior has separated inmates aged between 15 and 18 at the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw from other inmates, the Ombudsman announced.

The move was taken in implementation of the recommendations included in the report issued by the Office of the Ombudsman last September following its visit to Jaw Prison.

Detaining those intimates in special cells is an important step towards applying international standards regarding respecting inmates and providing them with their basic human needs that differ according to age groups.

In a letter to the Ombudsman, the Reform and Rehabilitation Directorate affirmed that it is currently studying the recommendations featuring in Jaw Prison Report and will implement them accordingly, noting that all to be taken steps taken in this regard will be announced so as to ensure transparency and commitment to the principles of human rights and legal norms.
