Manama, Dec. 7 /2012 (BNA) – Secretary-General of the Office of the Ombudsman at the Interior Ministry Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda received here yesterday a delegation from the technical team of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), recently on a visit to the kingdom.
Al-Maawda welcomed members of the delegation and presented them with a detailed explanation about the stages of the establishment of the Office, stressing that it is a pioneering step on the road to consolidate the concepts of respect for human rights and the rule of law, as part of the kingdom’s efforts to implement the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), particularly the 1717th.
He also pointed out that the nature of the work of Office of the Ombudsman, being the first of its kind in the GCC region, requires it to take advantage of the pioneering international experiences and relevant experts, which, he said, was the aim of his recent meetings with the concerned world sides.
He also staged a presentation on the Offices’ stages of work, as well as its administrative and technical mechanisms put in place ahead of its official inauguration for the aim of ensuring its impartiality, independence and readiness to provide the best services for the citizens and expatriates alike.
Al Maawda also said that preparations are in full swing in order to finalise the Office’s technical and administrative requirements, in association with eminent interactional legal and human rights sides so as to set up an advanced framework that reflects the kingdom’s unique political and democratic development, out of its strong belief in the need to consolidate the concept of the state of law and institutions and human rights values.
