Ombudsman General-Secretariat and Special Investigation Unit Sign Deal

Manama-July1 / 2013 (BNA)Interior Ministry Ombudsman General Secretary Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda and Special Investigation Unit Chief Nawaf Abdulla Hamza have today signed a memorandum of understanding.

The deal is in compliance with Bahrain’s commitments to international human rights agreements, covenants and declarations, suspects’ guarantee rights, particularly the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The decree law 35 for 2013 mandated the Interior Ministry Ombudsman General Secretariat to assume additional duties which include the monitoring of rehabilitation and detention centres, in line with the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry.
