Ombudsman General-Secretary Receives GCC Delegation

Manama, Dec10  2013 (BNA)Interior Ministry Ombudsman General-Secretary Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda received here today a GCC delegation from reformation and rehabilitation departments, on visit to Bahrain to take part in the Second GCC Inmates Week being organized from December 8 to 11 under the theme "Take My Hands Towards Better Tomorrow".

He welcomed the delegation and gave a briefing on the Ombudsman, including its duties, specialties, important achievements and activities after the official launching last July – including the issuance of the first version of the principles and standards of supervision of prisons and detention centers, which are in line with the internationally adopted standards.

Al-Maawda affirmed that the Ombudsman proceeds with the investigation of received complaints concerning the inmates of prisoners and detainees, and deal with these complaints according to the work mechanism to ensure the implementation of accountability and transparency while exercising its duties.

Ombudsman Deputy Secretary-General Osama Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, Director of Ombudsman's affairs Abdulrahman Ali Faris, Director of the Penitentiaries and Detention Centres' Control Hamad Salman Taqi were present.
