Manama, Aug 30 (BNA) – The Ombudsman's Office has launched an investigation into the status of Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, an inmate at the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre (RRC) in Jaw who began a hunger strike on 25 August 2014.
A statement issued by the Ombudsman Office said that the inmate had sent a letter to the RRC management in which he said that he would go on a hunger strike until he is released. The statement added that an investigator from the Office paid a visit on 29 August 2014 to the inmate to check on his health condition and to ensure the availability of health care.
His personal health examination record showed that he had visited the RRC doctor 17 times since he started the strike, five days ago, the statement said. The Ombudsman's Office recommended continuing to provide the inmate with health and medical care and to watch his health condition closely.
