Ombudsman Secretary General receives OHCHR technical delegation
Manama, Feb. 23 . 2014 (BNA)-- The Ombudsman's Secretary General Nawaf Mohammed Al Ma'awda received today a technical delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) led by Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department Faraj Fneish.
He welcomed the delegation's visit to the Ombudsman's Secretariat General as part of their meetings with relevant human rights institutions and bodies in Bahrain. He presented them with an account on the Secretariat General's history and work which consists in receiving complaints from people in case of any alleged irregularities perpetrated by the Interior Ministry' s personnel-be they civilian or military. He also stressed the key role played by the Secretariat General in monitoring the reformation and detention centres.
He reviewed the Secretariat General's activities since its official inception in July 2013 as well as its role in promoting external communication and availing of international experiences. He pointed out work visits made to some European countries and the USA to get informed about mechanisms of receiving complaints, ways of dealing with them and the main inspection criteria of prisons and detention centres.
The Ombudsman's Secretary General hailed cooperation with OHCHR out of keenness to boost the human rights values and human treatment in the security field.
