Secretary-General of Ombudsman Meets with US Ambassador

Manama, April 7 /2013 (BNA) – Secretary-General of the Ombudsman at the Interior Ministry Nawaf Mohammed Al-Ma'awda met here today with the US Ambassador to Bahrain Thomas Krajeski and his accompanying delegation.

Al-Ma'awda welcomed the US envoy's visit through which he aimed to be informed about the tasks and functions of the Office.

He said that the Ombudsman, as it is the first of its kind in the region, which draws international attention to it, pointing out the need to take advantage of international expertise and successful experiences in this regard.

He asserted that the Office of the Ombudsman was established in accordance with the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, especially No. 1717, adding that the office's tasks are in line with BICI's recommendation No. 1722 (d).

He added that the Ombudsman is currently examining the work mechanisms and standards applied by its counterparts in other countries so as to ensure that its work and services are professional and meet international standards regarding transparency, independence and impartiality.
