Manama, July 11./2013 (BNA) – Secretary-General of the Ombudsman at the Interior Ministry Nawaf Mohammed Al-Ma’awda met here today with the British Ambassador to Bahrain Iain Lindsay.
Al-Ma’awda welcomed the British Ambassador’s visit, as part of the constant contacts between the two sides in order to avail of international expertise regarding the Ombudsman’s Secretariat-General’s work.
He asserted that after its official launch earlier this month, the Secretariat-General of the Ombudsman at the Interior Ministry is seeking to earn the confidence of the public through the services it provides and the duties it assumes, including ensuring accountability, following up on complaints with the concerned sides and monitoring reform and detention centres according to clear professional standards.
He expressed desire to consolidate joint cooperation between the Secretariat-General of the Ombudsman and British institutions with similar functions, such as Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons, concerning particularly the technical training of the Office’s personnel.
The Ombudsman’s Deputy Secretary-General Usama Ahmed Al-Asfoor and Director of Development and International Cooperation Ghada Hameed Habeeb, as well as Heba Al-Khalfawi, from the British Embassy, were also present.
