Six months jail term for a policeman
Manama, December 24 . 2013 (BNA) – Director of Ombudsman’s Administrative Affairs, Ali Abdul Rahman Bilal stated that the Security Court at Ministry of Interior ruled on Thursday, December 19/2013 with a jail term for a member of the security forces for six month, in addition to financial penalties, for causing the death of a detainee out of driving very fast.
The Director of Ombudsman’s Administrative Affairs said that the events of the case go back to Monday, July 29/2013, when a traffic accident occurred along Al-Fateh Highway, in the Capital City, Manama at about 06:30 at night, which caused the death of a citizen on the police patrol that was coming from Ministry of Interior’s Hospital at the castle, heading to Muharraq through Al-Fateh Highway.
The cause of the accident was due to the driver’s lack of care and attention, and he was a member of the security forces, driving the car faster than allowed, which led to crashing into the curb, and deterioration of the car.
The Ombudsman initiated checking the incident, and followed the course of investigation, as well as listening to the testimonies of the deceased’s two brothers.
Meanwhile, the Ombudsman informed the brother of the deceased about the investigation procedures, and the latest developments.
Director of Ombudsman’s Administrative Affairs, Ali Abdul Rahman Bilal concluded his statement saying that based on the results of the investigation in the incident, the Ombudsman recommended referring the documents, information and the complaint’s papers to the Security Court at Ministry of Interior.
The policeman involved in the accident was charged with a misdemeanor of manslaughter stipulated in Article (342) of the Penal Code, and referred to the Security Court, which ruled with jail term for six month with immediate effect, in addition to financial penalties.
